THE NATURAL WAY TO THICKER & HEALTHIER HAIR

Part 2 – Garlic

In our last blog we mentioned that there were two 100% natural, everyday products that your hair was going to love! The first was coconut oil and now we are here to tell you about the 2nd, Garlic!  Yes it does have a very strong odour but it has amazing benefits, particularly for thinning hair.

THE WHAT…

Garlic, scientifically termed Allium sativum, is a close relative to the onion, shallot, leek, chive and rakkyo family. Although it is commonly used for food seasoning it is also widely used as a traditional medicine with enormous health benefits including its anti-cancerous properties.

THE WHY…

Garlic has a very strong odour and although you may be reluctant to use it in your hair, you should give it a try. It’s 100% natural which means it is free of all of those unnecessary chemicals that can damage hair.

As you know garlic is great source of flavouring for food but it’s also good for your heart, is a natural antibiotic and of course it’s great for your hair!

Whether raw or cooked, garlic, is packed with loads of nutrients that will produce surprising results in the reduction and prevention of hair loss.  These nutrients include, Sulphur, Copper, Zinc, Vitamin C, B6, B1, Manganese, Selenium, Phosphorus, Calcium and Iron.

The many Sulphur molecules give it its antioxidants and helps increase blood circulation, which stimulates hair growth. Sulphur also aids in minimising dandruff.  The copper, which is often used in hair loss treatments, thickens hair and intensifies hair colour, making it great for reducing greys too.  Zinc balances your copper levels and also plays a big part in the production of new hair cells. The vitamin C in garlic, synthesises collagen, a fibrous protein that supports hair follicles and keeps the blood vessels in your scalp healthy. Vitamin C also helps the body absorb iron and Iron carries oxygen to the hair.

Much like Coconut Oil, Garlic is found to have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-viral properties present which makes garlic a beneficial treatment for your scalp.
